Mary Jo Hanigan, MN, MD is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with special interests in Women''s mental health, mood disorders, bipolar affective disorder, medical problems associated with mental illness, post-traumatic stress disorder and sexual trauma. She is an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Hanigan graduated from Creighton University, University of Kansas College of Health Sciences, and from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. She completed her psychiatric residency with Creighton-Nebraska Universities Health Foundation where she was appointed chief resident. She then completed a medical fellowship in Consult and Liaison Psychiatry from the University of Nebraska.
Dr. Hanigan is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Metro Omaha Medical Society, the Nebraska Psychiatric Society, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association of Women Psychiatrists. She was awarded the Roeske Award of Excellence in Education from the APA. Most recently, she was employed with the Douglas County Community Mental Health Center where she served as President of the medical staff. She has also served as a Consulting Psychiatrist in private practice for Family Enrichment, Inc for the past ten years.
Dr. Hanigan and her husband live in midtown Omaha and are raising four young children. Her personal interests include reading history and camping with her family. She looks forward to blending her unique experiences with a wide variety of patients, their diverse mental illnesses, her understanding of complex medication management and her familiarity of community resources to provide comprehensive patient care.
